Terminals and rail

Port Newark Container Terminal is in Port Newark and the Maher and APM terminals are in Elizabeth; Port Liberty Bayonne is in Jersey City and Port Liberty New York is on Staten Island[1]. Each of the five has berths at least 49 ft 10 in (15.2 m) deep at the dock, and APM’s largest cranes are rated at 110 US tons (100 t)[1]. A barge service links Red Hook Container Terminals in Brooklyn with the Red Hook Barge Terminal in Port Newark[7].

ExpressRail’s four on- and near-dock rail facilities serve all five container terminals: ExpressRail Elizabeth for APM and Maher, ExpressRail Newark for Port Newark Container Terminal, ExpressRail Port Jersey for Port Liberty Bayonne and ExpressRail Staten Island for Port Liberty New York, with CSX and Norfolk Southern taking trains inland[5]. Breakbulk and heavy-lift deliveries at Port Liberty Bayonne are by appointment only, so a machine on a lowboy needs a booked slot before it leaves for the terminal[6].

Yes. The Port Authority says weekly RoRo service carries high and heavy equipment such as construction vehicles, and Port Liberty Bayonne and Port Liberty New York both list RoRo cargo.

At the container terminal your carrier calls: Maher, APM Terminals, Port Newark Container Terminal, Port Liberty Bayonne or Port Liberty New York. Out-of-gauge flat racks are handled by appointment.

Yes. All five container terminals list breakbulk, and the Port Authority keeps berths for project cargo where trucks have no height restrictions, two of them with on-dock rail.
